We take great pride in providing an enriching and enjoyable experience for all our visitors. As part of our commitment to preserving our exhibits and ensuring the comfort and safety of our guests, we have implemented a policy update regarding event hosting within our premises.
As of June 2018, Casa Dolores Museum has stopped accommodating external or internal events. This decision was made after careful consideration of various factors, including the preservation of our collections, logistical constraints, and maintaining the tranquil atmosphere conducive to art appreciation.
We understand that this decision may inconvenience some of our patrons who have previously considered our venue for their events, and we sincerely apologize for any disappointment this may cause. However, we remain committed to offering a world-class museum experience focused on art, culture, and education.
We encourage you to continue visiting Casa Dolores Museum to explore our ever evolving exhibitions, and immerse yourself in the beauty of the arts. Our doors are always open to welcome you for individual visits, guided tours.

Casa Dolores celebrates El Día De Los Muertos with an annual altar. Our ofrenda includes traditional pan de muerto, candles, sugar- skulls, salt, water, cempasuchil flowers, etc. The decorations on our altar layers include the famous La Calavera Catrina and el Catrin, various ceramic and papier-mâché skulls and skeletons, mischievous devils, angels, butterflies, papel picado, and photographs to honor and celebrate the life of individuals recently deceased. |

Sugar Skull Decorating Activity: For a small donation, decorate your own sugar skull to take home with you! Casa Dolores will provide sugar skulls and craft supplies- you supply the creative talent! |

Scavenger Hunt!
Casa Dolores now has a student formatted scavenger hunt throughout the museum. Come in from now until March 31st, 2016 and complete the scavenger hunt for a chance to win 1-3 raffle tickets towards our next events raffle! Appropriate for all ages and integrates Spanish for those practicing students and native speakers. We hope to see you soon. Tues-Sat 12-4.
Rules and Instructions: Be sure not to take any of the clues or run around the museum. Please do not touch the artifacts. If you are stuck feel free to ask a staff member for help. Scratch paper will be provided. The prize for each person to complete it is 1 raffle ticket at the next event. Or you can win 3 raffle tickets by answering two additional questions.

El Día de los Muertos 2015
Join Casa Dolores Saturday October 31st- November 14th to see our visually spectacular altar celebrating the traditional Mexican Day of the Dead and the famous figures, El Catrín y La Catrina, created by the renowned Linares family. El día de los muertos is a celebration of the continued life of past family. Three generations of the Linares family have combined the popular history of the festival with a macabre humor and distant artisan touch to the Calaveras, that looks somewhere between José Guadalupe Posada and Tim Burton. We look forward to seeing you there!

SANTA BARBARA CAR-FREE PROJECT

Casa Dolores is participating in the Santa Barbara Car-Free Project, encouraging travel by public transportation. Coinciding with National Train Day (May 3), the project will launch at Los Angeles Union Station in collaboration with Amtrak. From now through December, the museum offers a guided tour and a special piece of Postcard Art to visitors who show their Amtrak train ticket.

Featuring the films of Mexican comic actor, Cantinflas, whose career spanned decades – from the golden era of Mexican film to a Golden Globe award and star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Come enjoy an evening of classic Mexican film in the front garden of this historic adobe house.

On May 18, Casa Dolores opened on a Sunday to participate in International Museum Day around this year’s theme: “Museum collections make connections.” Established by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 1977, this is a day in which museums around the world organize to draw attention to the role of museums in society. Last year, for example, 35,000 museums from 143 countries on five continents participated. As a special acknowledgment for the day, Casa Dolores continued its living tree of life through artistic participation, and visitors added their touch to the papier-mâché tree in the front gallery, enhancing the multiple contributions and varied perspectives of its symbolism, connecting generations and cultures.
El 18 de mayo, Casa Dolores estuvo abierto un domingo para participar en el Día Internacional del Museo sobre el tema: "Los vínculos creados por las colecciones de los museos." Establecido por el Consejo Internacional de Museos (ICOM) en 1977, es un día en cuando los museos se organizan por todo el mundo para llamar atención al papel de los museos en la sociedad. El año pasado, por ejemplo, 35,000 museos de 143 países en cinco continentes participaban. The Santa Barbara Central Library invited Casa Dolores to decorate its Central Library's display case for the month of December 2013. Here is the display case that features objects from the Casa Dolores collection. Of course, these photos do not do the 11-foot case justice, please stop by and see it for yourself.
LOS AMIGOS del ARTE POPULAR (LADAP) visited Casa Dolores on Oct. 19. More than 50 of the nonprofit's members attended the event, and traveled from across the country, including Texas, New Mexico and California. Following their visit, LADAP awarded Casa Dolores a $2,000 grant for the museum's commitment to promoting Mexican folk art and educating others. Thank you to LADAP and its members for their visit and the grant that will fund Casa Dolores' mission to expand the passion of Mexican Arts and Crafts with the community and visitors.
